How to Extend the Life of a Spa Cover
Spa covers are extremely important as they keep the water inside your hot tub cleaner and clearer than if the water was constantly exposed (it’s a no brainer, right?!) And let’s be honest, covers won’t break the bank but they can be on the pricey side. Therefore, it’s really vital that you take care of your cover, so you can extend the life of it to it’s fullest capacity. We have broken down a few simple ways for you to do so, here:
Spa Cover Maintenance Steps:
- Clean your spa cover regularly. It’s really important to keep your hot tub AND hot tub cover, clean, in order to prolong the length of both. We have outlined how to do this in the “How To Clean Your Hot Tub and Hot Tub Cover” Care Guide. It’s important to note that one of the main reasons to clean your cover regularly is that when you clear off the dirt, debris, water, etc., that piles on top of your cover - the chances of the cover lasting longer is high. Mildew won’t form, and the vinyl (or other outer covering) will stay in tact.
- Step 2: Properly place spa. This may not be something you think of when you first purchase our spa, but the placement of your hot tub can be very important. If your cover is regularly exposed to the elements (sun especially), it will be worn down quicker than if placed in the shade. For example, if you have an awning or gazebo, this will allow the cover to avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun and other weather related issues.
- Step 3: Condition your cover. Most hot tub covers that you find are made of vinyl. A lot of times, they are even weather resistant, which is great. But making sure the vinyl stays clean is KEY in prolonging the life of your spa cover. Buy a hot tub cover cleaner vinyl protectant, and that should be all you need (in addition to cleaning the spa cover regularly like we mentioned in #1.) Use this conditioner protectant right after cleaning for maximum protection!
