Many people shut their spas down during the summer months. However, your hot tub can be used year-round! Here are a few suggestions to help you get the best use of your spa in any season.

Change the temperature!

During the winter months, most people keep their hot tub water temperature between 98 and 104 degrees. However, spas typically have a temperature range of 80 to 104 degrees. When the weather becomes warmer, one hot tub summer setting is to simply turn down the temperature of your hot tub and use the spa to cool off. Depending on the style of heater in your hot tub, you might be able to disconnect the heater completely! You can still utilize your therapy jets in cool, refreshing water. Or, keep your tub’s temperature high to continue to enjoy soothing hot water and just use the tub later in the evening, once the outside temperatures have cooled down.

Make sure you water is clean and clear!

Check your spa filter, make sure it is clean and ready to use. If not, clean your spa filter or get it replaced.

If your spa is placed outdoors, you may want to consider setting up a large cantilever umbrella or a canopy. This will keep direct sunlight off you while you are using your hot tub. Deflecting UV rays can also extend the life of your summer hot tub cover .

Make sure you have all of your chemicals on hand. It is easy to forget to rinse off suntan lotions and oils before getting into your hot tub. By keeping spa shock and chlorine or bromine readily available, you can make sure to add the proper chemicals immediately to keep foreign contaminants from clogging your filter.

Summer is the best time to check over your hot tub cover and perform any maintenance. If your cover is becoming waterlogged, flip it over on your spa for a day or two to allow water to evaporate. This works best on very hot, sunny days. Also, make sure to clean the underside of your cover with a mild bleach water and keep the top vinyl clean and hydrated. Make sure the products you use on your vinyl top are made for vinyl products and offer UV protection.
