How to Read AquaChek Test Strips

As stated above, there are 7 elements to the AquaChek Test Strips to understand. Here is how to read those test strips (in order from top to bottom), and what each means.

Total Hardness: Measures the amount of calcium and other minerals found in your spa water. You want this to be balanced (as it can damage your spa equiptment/surfaces), and to range between 175-275 ppm.

Total Chlorine/Total Bromine: Amount of chlorine or bromine in your water. The range needs to be between 1-4 ppm.

Free Chlorine: Measures the amount of chlorine available to sanitize your hot tub water. This controls algae and kills bacteria. Keep levels between 1-4 ppm.

pH: Measures how acidic your spa water is. If pH is imbalanced, it can damage pool equipment, and effect the effectiveness of your sanitizer. Keep pH between 7.2 and 7.6.

Total Alkalinity: Alkalinity is very similar to pH - and low alkalinity can cause the pH to fluctuate, while high alkalinity can cause pH to go up. Maintain total alkalinity between 80-150 ppm.

Cyanuric Acid: A stabalizer meausres the amount of cyanuric acid found in your spa. This needs to be maintanied to at least 30 ppm.

AquaChek test strips and color chart are one of the most accurate test strips on the market. If you follow the directions on the test strip bottle correctly, you will get an effective reading in regards to the chemistry of your hot tub and spa.
